Comparison of different types of Research Design
1. Meta-analysis – In this study method the focus is to thoroughly review a literature and then summaries the clinical findings in order to validate the studies. In this method, data for an individual is derived from a large group.
Advantage: Include validation of small evidences, evaluate critic documents and literature, and provide a structured review of literature
Disadvantages: Takes a lot of time, difficult to combine studies, subject may bias from original studies
2. Randomized controlled trial (RCT) – The participants are randomized and the design is manipulated through therapeutic intervention.
Advantages: No biasing as random participants are chosen, it provides opportunity to compare the result with control group, high efficacy and strong evidence of causality
Disadvantages: Studies involving ethical dilemmas cannot be carried on, takes time longer than usual, andis expensive though it has sound methodology.
3. Cohort study – A defines group of people is chosen and the data is collected from this group through interview etc.
Advantages: people are observed in natural setting with high chances of possible associations of results
Dis advantages: No randomization and hence no bias. It takes long time and is expensive
4. Case control study –
Advantages – it is fast and cheap and is used to determine rare disease.
Disadvnatages: No randomization, chances of choosing control group
