Describe how at least one of the laws of thermodynamics relates to your room, or the heating or cooling of your room and Comment on three ways to improve the efficiency of your room.
The first law of thermodynamics establishes that the only processes where energy transfer with the environment occurs is through heat and work. This law is expressed by the following equation:
where Q is heat and W is work.
The heating systems are based on the first law of thermodynamics, where the system performs a work and then transfers the energy in the form of heat Q in the environment. Convection currents are responsible for bringing heat throughout the room.
One way to improve the efficiency in heating in the room is to ensure that the walls are covered with a thermal insulator, this allows the heat transfer of the room with its environment is minimal.
Keeping the room closed also helps heating efficiency, this measure prevents the loss of energy in the form of heat to the outside of the room.
If the heating system uses a radiator, it is advisable to keep it clean to avoid the formation of dust layers, since the dust is a thermal insulator and would not allow the radiator heat to reach the room.
