Solutions

Expert Solution

The correct answer is option A) A notochord

Leech belongs to the phylum Annelida. They are typically segmented worms. The anterior end of leech consists of the mouth and the posterior end consists of a large sucker. The body of leech is cylindrical in shape. The body of leach is segmented and usually comprises of about 34 body segments. Their body consists of a fluid filled body cavity called as the coelom. The body of the leech comprises three layers : the outer layer called as the ectoderm, the middle layer called as the mesoderm and the inner layer called as the endoderm. Their nervous system consists of ventral nerve cord which comprises the cephalic and the segmental ganglia.

Option b) segmentation is not the right answer because the body of the leech is segmented.

Option c) ventral nerve cord is not the right answer because leeches have a ventral nerve cord.

Option d) coelom is not the right answer because leech have a fluid filled body cavity called as coelom.

Option e) mesoderm is not the right answer because the body layer of leech comprises of ectoderm, mesoderm and endoderm.

Some types of nerve cells have the ability to regenerate a part of the cell that has been amputated. In a study of this process in lemurs, researchers cut nerves emanating from the spinal cord of a sample of 31 animals and measured the content of creatine phosphate (CP). They found a sample mean of 0.213 mg/g, with a standard deviation of 0.094 mg/g. In healthy cells, the CP content is 0.15 mg/g. Assuming all relevant assumptions hold, conduct the...
