Post an example of something that you have read RECENTLY that is written with persuasive language. Think about places you have been that want to sell things---especially menu items; maybe you have read about someone who wants to earn your trust/ get your vote—there are so many examples of persuasive writing in our everyday lives. Share one here and comment on two other students’ posts.
Thinking about what an opposing writer may trying to say and providing the counter argument can be very powerful and will make own point appear stranger .
EXAMPLE - " William Wallace led the Scottish rebellion against Edward I in the fourteenth century .His explotits were made into the film Braveheart "
" I am William Wallace . and i see a whole army of my country men , here in definance of tyranny ! You have come to fight as free men . And free men you are ! what will you do without freedom :? will you fight ? yes! fight and you may die . Run and you will live at least a while .And dying in your bed many years from the now , would you be willing too trade all the day s from this day to that for one chance , just one chance , to come back here as young men and tell our enemies that they may take our lives but they will never take our freedom"
in this extract from this speech for freedom , think about his overall purpose and how is he trying to convience his audience in a certain way .
William uses of personal pronouns (I,you, our) to make the audience feel a sthrough he is speaking to them on an individual level .The repeated use of "free" emphasiszes the overall topic of his speach , and also the benefits to thepepe listening .He repeatedly uses rhetorical questions ,one after the other to impact onthe audinence that they feel that they must fight to protect their freedom .The closing sentence is highly emotive he uses the word "fredom " to leave the overalll message with the his auidence to consider for themselves .
