The role of privacy and security officer in the HIM department
Describe what it would take in order to be successful in that goal, including education, experience, and other skills necessary to obtain the position and to be successful in the role.
1.The privacy officer is responsible for the Privacy Program in Health Information Management(HIM),which includes daily operations of the program,development ,implementation and maintenance of policies and procedures concerned with the organization.,monitoring of program compliance,investigation and tracking of incidents,and breaches and insuring patients rights in compliance with federal and state laws.
The role of Privacy and Security officer in theHIM department are
a.Serves in a leadership role for privacy compliance.
b.Maintains current knowledge of applicable federal and state privacy laws and accreditation standards.
c.Serves as information privacy resource to the organization regarding release of information and to all departments for all privacy related issues.
d.Manages all breach determination and notification process under HIPAA.
e.Buiding a strategic and comprehensive privacy program that defines,develops,maintains an implements policies and processes.
f Oversees initial and periodic information privacy risk assessment/analysis,mitigation and remeditation.
g.stablishes and administers a process for investigating and acting on privacy and security complaints.
h.Initiates,facilitates and promotes activities to foster information privacy awareness within the organization and related entities.
2.The Educational qualification required for the job are
a. Baccalaureate degree in health informatiin management or a related health care field.
b.Knowledge and experience in the state and federal information privacy laws.
c.Demonstrated organization ,facilitation,written and oral communication and presentation skill.
d.Recommended privacy certification such ad Certified in Health care Privacy and Security and or health care industry related credential.
