DRUG FOR HOMEOSTASIS

1) Hydralazine : It is a vasodilator drug.

  • Uses: High blood pressure(hypertension),
  • Eclampsia (high blood pressure in pregnant women
  • Heart failure

Brand name: Apresoline

Action: dialtes the blood vessel thus more oxygen reaches to heart, reducing the workload on heart.

Side effects: nausea, headache, dizziness, blurred vision,fever,pale skin, unsual bleeding

ALTERNATIVE DRUG:

LABETOLOL: it is a beta blocker drug

Uses: Hypertensive crisis, postoperative hypertension, pregnancy induced hypertension, rebound hypertension.

Brand name: Normodyne

Action: blocks the beta receptors thus relaxes the vascular smooth muscles.

Side effects: Headache, dizziness,tiredness

2) SIMVASTATIN: It is one of the major lipid lowering agent.

Uses: Dyslipidemia, Stroke, Heart attacks, Artherosclerosis.

Brand name : Zocor

Action:It acts by inhibiting 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl coenzyme A reductase responsible for engenous production of cholestrol.

Side effects: Indigestion ,ezcema,joint pain, muscle cramps, allergic reactions.

ALTERNATIVE MEDICATION:

EZETIMIBE: It acts as lipid lowering agent.

Uses: Dyslipidemia

Brand name: Zetia

Actions: It reduces the absorption of cholestrol from food.Reduces bad cholestrol i.e LDL and increases good cholestrol (HDL) in blood, can be used in place of statins.

Side effects: Diahorrea, common cold,joint pain, fatigue.

3) ACETAMINOPHEN : It is an analgesic and anti pyretic drug.

Uses: pyrexia, arthritis, mild to severe pain.

Brand name: Tylenol

Action: acts on heat reguling center in brain thus lower the body temperature. its also releases prostagladin thus increases the pain threshold.

Side effects: hypersensitive reaction, anaemia,kidney damage, thrombocytopenia.

ALTERNATIVE MEDICATION:

Turmeric: its an anti inflammatory agent that blocks many pathways leading to inflammation. It can be also used in our diet as suppliment. Long use of turmeric may lead to diahorrea, indigestion,nausea. People sufferind from gallbladder disease should not use turmeric because it may worsen the condition.

Ginger: it has digestive effects mainly helps in menstrual pain, migraine headaches, osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis.

Clove oil: acts as tooth analgesic. It relieves dental pain. But people with bleeding disorder should avoid it as it has blood thinning properties.
