finalize three research questions relating to your selected dataset. Make sure the variables used in the final questions you select are of the following format:
1. Continuous response and continuous explanatory variable
2. Categorical response and categorical explanatory variable
3. Continuous response and categorical explanatory variable (note: the categorical variable must be dichotomous for this question)
Study of Interest: The Framington Heart Study
My 10 variables chosen:
CURSMOKE (currently smoking cigarettes): categorical-dichotomous
AGE: continuous- ratio
SEX: categorical-dichotomous
DIABETES: categorical-dichotomous
HEARTRTE (heart rate): continuous-ratio
BPMEDS (anti-hypertension medication): categorical-dichotomous
STROKE: categorical-dichotomous
BMI(body mass index): continuous-ratio
HYPERTEN (hypertension): categorical-dichotomous
CVD (cardiovascular disease): categorical-dichotomous
1. Age , Heart Rate and BMI are the only 3 countinuous variables which you have considered for your study.
Now the response variable is the variable which you want to predict by the help of explainatory variables. Like you can predict Age by looking at the Heart Rate and BMI and so on for any conbinations.
So the possible combinations of response and explainatory variables here are 3
(i)...Age -> Response
Heart Rate and BMI -> explainatory
(ii)... Haert Rate -> Response
Age and BMI -> explainatory
(iii).....BMI -> Response
Heart Rate and Age -> explainatory
2. same as for continuous you have to do the process for categorical variables
there are total 7 varibles where 6 out of 7 will be explainatory and 1 will be response variable
the 7 variables are CURSMOKE ,SEX,DIABETES,BPMEDS ,STROKE,HYPERTEN & CVD
So there are 7 combinations
(i) response = CURSMOKE
explainatory = rest all except CURSMOKE (i.e. SEX,DIABETES,BPMEDS ,STROKE,HYPERTEN & CVD)
and so on for rest 6 cases
3.Categorical response and continuous explainatory varible then we can pick any combinations of continuous variables from Age , Heart Rate and BMI (And when i say combination it could be any 1 ,any 2 or all 3 could be explainatory variables)
But the response variable should be 1 only from all the categorical variables and since it's given that the categorical variable must be dichotomous and here all are dichotomous we can pick any variable and check the impact of continuous variable's any combination on all the categorical variables 1 by 1)
