what are the goals of Afrocentricity movement? Why do many black intellectuals polls Afrocentricity?
Afrocentricity is an African-centered education which is required to re-orient black away from the Eurocentric history taught in schools. The movement focusses to combat the way that African cultural inferiority is taught, and therefore African-American inferiority gets internalized to instill pride and importance in ones culture. It puts Africa and African culture in the forefront of the educational Which deals to counter the way that Europe is placed in the forefront of the standardized curriculum.
Critics oppose and not in favor of Afrocentricity as they think that it instead fosters not only self-segregation but also a feel-good interpretation of history. Most of them think that trying to overpower the “great man” notions of European history bend reality, as well as covers the conceptions of race which is applicable for African Americans today. Early Afrocentrist constructions upturn the present hierarchy seen in history which suggests that the black man has been subjugated by white man, who is inferior and obsessed with color phobias. The self-segregation argument I understand less the idea that Afrocentrist black history will foster the same mindset for black students that it has for white students, which is segregationist.
