First, what is motivation, and why is it important for managers to understand how motivation works?

Second, suppose that you are the manager of a Salvation Army store. People make donations to the store as charitable contributions, and then the store sells the items to raise money for its charitable projects (mostly designing programs to offer immediate relief, short-term care and long-term growth in the areas that will best benefit the community). Name at least one extrinsic and one intrinsic reward you might use to motivate employees at the store.

answer-

Motivation is a factor or driving force which leads a person to act. The act is based on the achievement of something which he/she needs or desires. For achievement of that they show high level of performance and do everything to achieve that.

It is very important for Managers to understand how Motivation works because Managers are the leaders who have to lead thier employees towards the common goal. They can do this only if their employees are motivated and inspired. Understanding how motivation works will help Managers to know what their employees need and desire because not every employee they manager can be motivated by same things. Some are motivated by money while some motivated by growth. Understading this will help managers to increase performance of thier employees and achievement of common goals set by managers.

Extrinsic rewards are monetary rewards that encourage people to achieve what they are supposed to. In this store, I would offer bonuses to motivate employees at the store, Bonus based on thier performance so that they will sell more at the store. second, i would also use fringe benefits like coupons, health pay like dental pay, sick pay etc.

Intrinsic rewards are those which comes from inside of employees. What they believe and inspire them. For this, I will motivate employees by prasing those employees in front of our donors, public and other employees by organzing event where top performercs will be respected and praised so that they will feel valued and show more exceptional work in future.
