Write down a summary statement relating position and velocity in your own words, in graphical form, and in mathematical form.
Position is a place where someone or something is located or kept. In 2D we use X-axis and Y-axis to locate the exact position of any object. In 3D we use an extra coordinate i.e Z-axis. With the help of these three axis we can locate an object. In the following picture position of the point P is (4,2) i.e we have to go 4unit along X-axis then 2unit along Y-axis. Similarly position of point Q is (-5,4) i.e we have to go 5unit along negative X-axis and then 4unit along Y-axis. This position is determined.
Now if position is changed with respect to time then it is called the object is in motion. The ratio of change in position in a prticular direction (is called displacement) and the time taken by the object to do this is called Velocity. Or we can say position is a function of time X(t) then velocity is derivative of X(t) with respect to time. Since position is a vector quantity so velocity is also vector quantity. V=(dx/dt)
following are some basic graphical representation of position and time
mathematical
form of velocity . If the initial position of object is
Xiand final position
is Xf in time t then
velocity V=(Xf-Xi)/t this is
for uniform velocity. For non uniform velocity we can use
V=U+at or. ( total displacement)/(total
time taken).
Hope this will help u don't forget to give a thumbs up. THANK YOU!
