In: Operations Management
As the name suggests bottleneck is the process where we have to spend more time on that process and the per unit time production entirely depends upon that.
When we consider a bottleneck it is obviously the process with the longest processing time and least production rate
For example, there are two series operations say, one process taking 3 minutes and another taking 10 minutes to process the input to give one output. When the input enters to the first process having 3 minutes processing time every 3 minutes it will process one unit but it has to wait for the second process to be finished as to takes 10 minutes for the second process. The productivity of the process automatically depends upon the longest processing time process.
So, the bottleneck is the second process having 10 minutes processing time
the bottleneck of a process is the operation with the shortest cycle time?
