Do americans have a right to affordable health care? (Please write a 300 word response)
Governments have the moral duty to protect its citizens from the dangers and provide a better society to live. Thus it becomes the responsibility of a government to contribute towards the wellbeing of its citizens is by providing them with the basic amenities such as clean water, housing, safety and security better education, medical facilities, employment. Medical facilities is one of the most crucial among all the others apart from the basic amenities. The amount of diseases, the rising medical cost, the expensive treatments, unemployment, poverty etc. all have left many vulnerable to suffer from serious diseases.
According to the social contract theory, all the citizens pay their taxes and live as a law abiding citizens thus the government is expected to protect them and their properties at any cost. The rising capitalism and profit oriented private healthcare companies and lack of government facilities in remote places and the huge population has reduced the opportunities of all people getting timely and low cost treatment. The elderly and people at the low profile of the society are left more vulnerable than any other population making it difficult for them access quality medical facilities.
Having this in mind, most of the governments have introduced low cost or subsidised medical insurances and free services for certain population in the country thus bringing hope among many people. Although the government is trying to help poor people with the subsidised health insurances, the institutional racism that’s practiced in the USA, has put people who have no homes, jobs and family who belong to the other colours under great trouble as they try to establish their identity. This is one of the most threatening factor in the United States. It’s not about providing health care but it’s about providing health care to all equally.
