Appropriate performance appraisal method to assess students’ performance in class is 360 degree feedback.
It is a continuous process; it can help students stay motivated and continuously improve their performance in class. Every student in a class appraises his or her teachers, class-mates and also does a self-evaluation. This information is then incorporated into that student’s performance review.
Key areas to focus are-
1. Achievements in academics and extra-curricular activities
2. Productivity
3. Communication skills
4. Teamwork, when group assignments are given
5. Creativity and innovation in assignments
6. Flexibility of doing work
7. Behavior with other class mates
Areas which are consider as less important-
1. Physical appearance
2. Emotional aspect
3. Spiritual aspect
Approach in increasing performance of students-
1. Establish a climate of mutual respect
2. Set high and clear expectations form students to do quality work
3. Work on their communication skills by holding debates and extempore like activities in class
4. Introduce and discuss at least one new “power word” (abstract vocabulary word) every day.
5. When introducing an important new concept or skill, make sure everyone understands before moving on
6. Become a role model for student interest
7. Motivate them time to time
8. Praise them whenever they work good
9. Grow community of learners in classroom
10. Provide proper and regular feedback to each student
