Psychoanalytic theory is no longer the dominant therapeutic approach, because it lacks empirical support. Yet many consumers continue to seek psychoanalytic or psychodynamic treatments. Do you think psychoanalysis still has a place in mental health treatment? If so, why?
What might be some advantages and disadvantages of technological advances in psychological treatment? What will psychotherapy look like 100 years from now?
Some people have argued that all therapies are about equally effective, and that they all affect change through common factors such as the involvement of a supportive therapist. Does this claim sound reasonable to you? Why or why not?
When choosing a psychological treatment for a specific patient, what factors besides the treatment’s demonstrated efficacy should be taken into account?

Advantages of technological advances in psychological treatment:
1. It is easier to research more and various interventions for providing a particular treatment.
2. A controversial trend, the use of online therapy which allows both therapist and client to see and hear each other speak in real time. This could be used when the client is hesitant to meet the therapist in person or the client stays far away or is unable to meet the therapist in person for various constraints.
3. The psychological treatment can be delivered on time and can get quick and discrete information.
4. Online therapy can provide immediate intervention and can be available at any time.
5. Can help overcome social stigma.
Disadvantages:
1. Legal and ethical considerations could be a major disadvantage. Every jurisdiction may have different legal and regulatory concerns.
2. Technological failures like no access or limited access in remote areas or temporary service disruptions etc.
3. Complicated pay structure.
4. Identity problems when it comes to online therapy.
What will psychotherapy look like 100 years from now?
The future of psychotherapy could depend on what we think of it now. Psychotherapy up to 1960s was psychoanalysis or its modification. Now therapies have been more experimental and there is greater much understanding of the process of psychotherapy and the therapeutic relationship. The demand for psychotherapy or counseling has increased. The goals have been expanded. Century from now we can say that there will be changes in the theory and practice of psychotherapy.
