  1. How does your personal culture influence health behaviors when working with patients from a background different than yours? How do you think that your patients’ perceive or respond to you as someone from a different culture and does that play a role in the patient’s outcome?
  2. As a profession, nurses need to contribute to the evidence-based development of patient-centered communication based on continued dialogue with patients, their families and other professional colleagues. Discuss basic therapeutic communication strategies that nurses can use with patients across clinical settings (give at least three strategies with examples).
  3. After reviewing Chapter 6 in the Weberg text, discuss how ethics plays an integral role in working with patients and families. Include three items from the definitions, key concepts and related concepts (on page 212-216 in Weberg text) and provide examples of each item you choose and discuss its importance in patient care and how it relates to patient outcomes.

Active listening

Active listening is an important one in therapeutic communication .it involve paying attention to what the patient says and allowing them to talk without any interruption or judgement .it makes the patient confident and explore more about the problems and feel comfort that someone is listening .example - maintain eye to eye contact ,restating questions asked,asking follow up questions etc.

Offering hope and humor

Offering hope or humor makes the patient smile and get the power to lead the life ,because hospital stays are lonely and stressful.offering hope change their mind and lightening their mood with humor help them to communicate the feelings and make them more positive .example - making the patient to watch their favourite show or music change their mind and making them to visit chaperon fill their with hope and improve quality of life .

Focusing

The nurse should focus on the issue that the patient facing and not the person .the nurse should communicate well in the inorder to identify the exact problem of the client .by focusing only on the problem the client does not feel and discomft to disclose the matter they face .example -communicate with the client without any differences on the basis of culture ,race,rich or poor etc .do not ask about the culture caste or financial status ask politely only the problem or issues.
