Isosorbide
Potassium chloride
Isosorbide mononitrate:- it is used to prevent chest pain (angina) in patients with a certain heart condition ( coronary artery disease). This medication belongs to a class of drugs know as nitrates.
Isosorbide dinitrate :- it is used to treat or prevent attacks of chest pain. Only the sublingual tablet should be used to treat an angina attack that has already begun . Isosorbide dinitrate regular and extended- release tablets are used to prevent angina attacks but will not treat an angina attack.
Pottasium chloride :- it is used to prevent or to treat low blood levels of pottasium(hypokalemia). Pottasium levels can be low as a result of a disease or from taking certain medicines, or after a prolonged illness with diarrhea or vomiting.
For pottasium chloride - serum pottasium level to be monitored.
Isosorbide- liver function and renal function
Approved use of isosorbide - vasodilator- angina pectoris
Pottasium chloride- maintaining electrolyte balance- hypokalemia.
Recommended dosage isosorbide- immediate release 5- 10mg PO twice daily initially( 5 mg in small patients). 7 hr hr apart; increased to 10 mg PO q 12 he by day 2 or 3 ; maintenance: 20 mg PO q 12 hr . Extended release : 30-60 mg PO once daily Inthe morning initially; may be increased to 120 mg PO once daily wait atleast 3 days between increase.
Take on empty stomach 30 min before or 1 hr after meal.
Extended - release tablet should be swallowed whole .must not be chewed crushed or split.
Pottasium chloride- hypokalemia - 20-40mEq BID - QID
Hypokalemia prophylaxis - start 20 mEq PO qDay
Dosage varies adjust to serum pottasium levels.
Achlasia Cardia - off label uses approved for isosorbide
