Suppose gene therapy can extend a person’s life to over 150 years; would this be a good thing? Please explain why or why not.
According to the present life span of man average number of earning income years ranges from early 20s to 60s. The retirement age is around 65 and average life expectancy of man is 75. On the other hand, if the life span increases to 150b years, the years of income and retirement too had to extend which would have effect on the financial returns. The investment years and the interest rates too would vary accordingly. Education would also get effected if the life span increases. There may increase the opportunities of the works for the humans and the increase in duration of earning would also witness a hike. The medical and healthcare industries would also witness huge shift. The work load for multiple employers, the working of Health Insurance Company and the technologies too would undergo a shift. The development of housing, transportation, entertainment and agriculture will also have to see progress if the life span of the humans increase.
If with the help of gene therapy the life of the person increases up-to 150 years, it would not be helpful and beneficial for the mankind. This increase will bring new challenges in the development of the humans and other advancements. The most drastic drawback would be the increase in population and this increase in population would bring other difficulties in medical, insurance, employment and finance sector.
