The key issues at Scarborough YMCA were faced by the new manager, Tammy McDonald. YMCA had been going through a critical period when McDonald was hired. The members were dissatisfied and the company was facing financial crises too. Changes needed to be made and implemented effectively through impactful leadership. Though the managers at the YMCA put in their best efforts the activities in locations were lagging behind. The work atmosphere was found to be very casual and lenient by the employees in the company and thus no one worked on clearly defined goals. Changes were needed with the employees showed resistance to as they felt it to be an obstacle in their own growth. In such an environment of resistance, it is a challenge for McDonald to implement the change through effective leadership. McDonald found it difficult to play a role of being a part of the team while leading it. Bringing change in the office culture was a challenge for her.
