In an organization, the worst situation for the manager is a highly cohesive group with low-performance norms which is a total nightmare scenario. How should the company handle this situation? ( decreasing the cohesiveness or increasing the personal norms are the answers but how?)
Answer: The Company should handle this situation by improving the performance norms. The company may do this by clearly defining the performance expectations of the organization and set clear goals for the employees. The company needs to break down the performance norms into behaviors and these expected behaviors should be regularly communicated and discussed with the team members. Incentives should be created for promoting these norms and the people who comply with them should be suitably rewarded. Diluting group cohesiveness can have negative impacts as without it a group may not be able to work as a team which is highly required for improving the performance. But if the group cohesiveness remains and the performance norms are also made high, the team may work wonders. Hence it is required that in such situations, the company should work for promoting and improving the performance norms inside the group rather than reducing the group cohesiveness.
