1. What is the benefit to studying twins in learning about abnormality? What are the limitations, do you think? Would it be more beneficial to study monozygotic or dizygotic twins? Why?
2. Describe a correlation. Then describe an experiment. What are the similarities? What are the differences? Be specific. (roughly one big paragraph)
The chief benefit to studying twins in learning about abnormality
one can make inferences about the degree to which certain symptoms
or behaviours are caused by genetic factors. If, for example,
identical twins raised in different family environments have
schizophrenia, researchers can conclude that might have a genetic
predisposition causing it. However, it is not always feasible to
strictly separate heredity and environment influences. Twins may
share the same environment, even if they are raised by different
families and so a characteristic could be due to their nurture,
rather than their nature, or a mixture of both. When it comes to
studying monozygotic or dizygotic twins, monozygotic twins are
preferable as they share 100 percent of their genes. Dizyotic twins
only share 50 percent of their genes.
