Assignment 3.1 - Is Your Organization Structure Strategic?
Analyze your current work environment (Walgreens) through the structural frame. Describe the structure of Walgreen's organization. Based on your experience and knowledge, was the structure of Walgreen's a strategic one or has it evolved as it has grown over time? Do you think that Walgreen's could benefit from reorganizing? What recommendations would you make, and why?
Answer :
The organisation is a consumer packaged good based out of US and have their market footprints across global.The company has a functional based organisation structure and it is flexible interms of regional based requirements.The current structure from the corporate level is on corporate cheif officers who are selected by team of board directors,then functional heads ( for operations, production,human resource and for marketing).Regional wise heads are there to monitor the health of each region of opportunity for business,strategic alliance with potential players inorder to leverage the technical and functional expertises and to minimise the cost of operations.
Reorganisation can be done in certain levels to enhance the business opportunities through various other business operations model such as franchisee stores,offshore operations using third party accounts etc.
This will help the organisation to expand their geograpich spread of business and to reduce the risk of operations.In accorance to that they need to redesign their organisational structure by incorporating more business leaders to monitor the third party operations and midlevel managers on various other funcionalties such as auditing,sunstinability practices etc.
