Two loudspeakers emit sound waves along the x-axis. A listener in front of both speakers hears a maximum sound intensity when speaker 2 is at the origin and speaker 1 is at x = 0.450 m . If speaker 1 is slowly moved forward, the sound intensity decreases and then increases, reaching another maximum when speaker 1 is at x = 0.850 m.
A.What is the frequency of the sound? Assume vsound =340m/s.
B. What is the phase difference between the speakers?
In the first case, the path difference between the two speakers
is
And in the 2nd case, the path difference between the two speakers
is
As in both cases, the intensity is maximum, so, the difference
between these two path difference is equal to the wavelength of the
sound. i.e.,
And as the speed of the sound is
A)
so, the frequency of the sound is
B)
The phase difference in the first case, when the path
difference is 0.450 m, is given by
And in the 2nd case, when the path difference is 0.850 m, the phase
difference is given by
