What are the purpose of laws prohibiting certain types of discrimination? Is this an example of regulations that cost business enterprises too much money?
answer-
In our Courty, There are laws like Title Vii of civil rights act, EEOC act, Equal pay act, American disability act etc which have the same purpose is to prevent candidates and existing employees from workplace discrimination based on certain characteristics and classes.
The purpos of laws is simple is create workplace more fair, safer and non discriminatory so that employees can do thier job based on thier qualifications, experience, skill and knowledge not based on their age, gender, race, religion etc. These laws help everyone to have equal life with fair and equal opportunities in thier life.
These regulations would not cost enterprises too much money if they conduct thier business legally and without any kind of discrimination.
for example- A Company refuses to hire Muslim employee wearing Hijab because their company's policy does not allow its employees to wear any scarf. This show discrimination and company will face legal suits for it.
in this case, Company can face too much money like The penalties differ from one kind of discrimination to another, but in general the maximum civil penalties range from $50,000 for smaller firms to $300,000 for companies with 500 employees or more.
Company should make sure that they follow employment laws in order to save money and not attract legal issues.
