The view of divine command is that morality is dependent on god.
And it also states that considering our rights and wrongs consists
in the obedience of god's commands. Morality is based on the
commands of god and morally right action is one that god
commands.
Criticism of this theory can be understood by following
points:
- Divine commands has difficulties because the conception of
morality makes god's commands arbitrary.
- History has shown that morals change over time and period so
what was considered morally incorrect in the past need not
necessarily be incorrect in today's time hence disregarding this
theory.
- Divine commands says that there is nothing right or wrong in
the world unless it is as per the will of god which means any
immoral or unjust act like raping, murdering etc. can be made moral
by claiming it to be moral as per the command of god.
- Relegion pluralism. There are multiple regions with different
authoritative texts. Hindus rule of ahimsa says not to eat meat and
be vegeterians whereas levictus teaches us to eat meat.
- There is no criteria for which claim to accept if two
individuals present confliction claims based on divine
commands
