Identify and discuss two religious and philosophical traditions of imperial China and their impacts on Chinese political process.
RELIGIOUS TRADITIONS OF IMPERIAL CHINA
1. Confucianism: a religion and a way of life developed in response to the Buddhism shaped the Chinese civilization. Numerous universities were established to spread this emphasis of stability and a well structured society. This was popular in the period of the Western Han.
2. Sinicization: This tradition brought non chinese societies into the chinese culture , influencing their diet, writing, industry, education, language, law etc.
PHILOSOPHICAL TRADITIONS OF IMPERIAL CHINA:
1. The Doctrine of Legalism: This philosophy emphasized strict adherence towrads the legal code and absolute power of the emperor. This philosophy efficiently increased the empire in a military fashion but could not govern in peacetime. This existed during the Qin Dynasty.
2. Neo-Confucianism: This was popular in Ming Dynasty so as to introduce rationalism and secularism.
