  • Emotional intelligence (otherwise known as emotional quotient or EQ) is the ability to understand, use, and manage your own emotions in positive ways to relieve stress, communicate effectively, empathize with others, overcome challenges and defuse conflict. EQ also allows you to recognize and understand what others are experiencing emotionally.
  • A high emotional intelligence can help you navigate the social complexities of the workplace, lead and motivate others, and excel in your career. In fact, when it comes to gauging important job candidates, many companies now view emotional intelligence as being as important as technical ability and use EQ testing before hiring.
  • By understanding your emotions and how to control them, you're better able to express how you feel and understand how others are feeling. This allows you to communicate more effectively and forge stronger relationships, both at work and in your personal life.
  • Being in tune with your emotions serves a social purpose, connecting you to other people and the world around you. Social intelligence enables you to recognize friend from foe, measure another person’s interest in you, reduce stress and balance your nervous system through social communication, and feel loved and happy.
  • Self-awareness is the ability to recognize and comprehend one's emotions, motivations and changing moods, as well as the effect that one's emotions have on other people. Cultivating self-awareness can often begin with simply taking stock of how you feel and act throughout the day and also asking yourself how your actions and moods correspond to other people's reactions to you.
  • As I have understood how an increased awareness of emotional response impacts the way in which I communicate verbally and non-verbally, I am better equipped now to moderate myself in terms of how to respond in a variety of business situations. For example, I had a tendency to speak faster when anxious during a last-minute meeting, now I have become more able to control my volume when I am angry or frustrated with a co-worker.
  • Motivation is defined as the drive to work for reasons that transcend money or status. True motivation comes from a desire for wholly internal rewards, such as fulfillment from learning, pursuing a genuine interest or from positively impacting other people around you.Being emotionally responsive has made my self motivation stronger;I am motivated by much bigger things than just money for my work,I like challenges in my work,I want to achieve something big,I have a larger ambition now and emotional self awareness has made me question by abilities and failures less and any disappointment motivates me further to work harder.Emotional self awareness has made me more optimistic and believe in my abilities to do better at my work and communicate with people better, even listen more and talk less.Soft skills have become more refined, allowing me to build a rapport and trust quickly and effectively with my colleagues.  Having empathy is a sign of high emotional intelligence and helps to genuinely connect with employees and understand their problems in a more compassionate manner.I am able to counsel my colleagues due to my emotional self awareness and understand their pressures at work in a better manner.
  • In my personal relationships,I am able to understand another person's perspective much more now,I understand how important it is to be present for the people you love and support them during their emotional turmoil. It helps me to communicate more openly with my loved ones and understand their emotional position as well.It has strengthened my bond with my loved ones by developing more sensitivity and compassion. It has also boosted my confidence to interact with people socially more positively.I had difficulty even mainitaing eye contact with people while talking to them, which clearly has lessened because of the interpersonal skills I have developed my becoming self aware.
