You are at a job interview for a senior management position. The interviewer asks you to explain how you would go about changing the culture of the organization, if hired. What would you suggest?
A change in cultural values is a slow endeavor and one that
requires continuous efforts and planning to be accomplished. As a
senior manager, I would first define the values that I would want
to change in the culture to bring the maximum benefits out front.
Aligning the changes with organizational strategy is the first
step. Once that has been achieved, the changes would slowly be
implemented piece by piece, connecting the culture to an
understanding of consistency and accountability. Having visible
proponents such as the company’s CEO and the management
implementing the change themselves would be of great value to the
workforce by both identification and correlation. The process would
be thoroughly monitored for inconsistencies and the change efforts
would be measured in order to provide unbiased results. At last, I
would set up a two-way feedback and communication system where the
employees can come forward and raise their concerns, as well as the
management can interact with the employees to best achieve a
synergistic approach to implementing the change
thoroughly.
