There are three classifications of crimes, violations, misdemeanors, & felonies? Can you tell me if there are a precise means to determine how the law determines which category the crime fits into?
Violation is also referred to as infractions. Such kinds of crimes are usually punishable by fines. Jail terms are not given for this kind of crime. An individual charged with the violation does not have a right to a jury trial. Traffic offenses are one of the most common forms of violation or infraction.
Misdemeanors are referred to as those crimes which are punishable by a jail term up to a year. It can also include probation, a fine, community service, or restitution. An individual involved in misdemeanors has a right to a jury trial. Convicted of a simple assault is generally charged with misdemeanors.
Felonies are referred to as those crimes which are extremely serious in nature. Such crimes involve physical harm to the victim. It also includes fraud schemes or white-collar crimes. It sometimes results in life imprisonment or even the death penalty. An example of felonies is attacking someone in order to kill them or literally killing someone.
