If you do not have the money to fight against a case that has been filed against you then you have got a couple of options.
First you can decide to go pro se. The term ‘pro se’ is a Latin phrase and it means ‘for yourself’. This method or approach will entail you to plead your case in front of the judge and this can be done without you having to bear large sums and amounts of money as legal expenses.
Secondly you can also decide to pursue out-of-court options. In many cases courts allows the warring parties to settle the matter through alternative methods like arbitration, mediation, etc. These methods are less expensive than actual legal trials and can be considered if the plaintiff is ready for the same.
Lastly a lot will depend on the nature of the case itself. Sexual harassment cases can either be civil or criminal in nature. If it is a criminal case and if you are not able to afford a lawyer then the court will appoint a lawyer for you. But if it is a civil case then you will have to go ‘pro se’ as discussed earlier.
