Organizational Theory:
How are physical structure, organizational identity, and corporate image related?
What are examples of well-known corporate images and how are they constructed?
Physical Structure of an
Organization:
The physical structure of an organization refers to how
organizational activities are directed in the organization and how
they affect the achievement of the collective organizational goal.
The physical structure of the organization provides the foundation
for the organization to function. It also refers to the physical
layout of the organization.
Organizational Identity of
an Organization:
Organizational Identity is defined as the core attributes that
define the overall character of the organization. Organizational
identity is often defined as the purpose of the organization and
its philosophy of how to achieve that purpose. So, in simple words,
purpose and philosophy of the organization combined together to
form the organizational identity.
Corporate Image of an
Organization:
The corporate image of an organization refers to the impression the
organization has on its stakeholders and the general public. The
people's perception and views about an organization are the
foundation for an organization's corporate image. Corporate image
can have a huge impact on the organization, more than we think it
has.
The interrelation of
Physical Structure, Organizational Identity and Corporate Image of
an Organization:
The physical structure, organizational identity and corporate image
of an organization are interrelated. If one aspect falls, it
affects the other two too. Say, the physical structure of an
organization is not appealing to the general public, and there is a
flaw in the organizational identity of that organization, the
corporate image that the organization has, will collapse. It
doesn't even hold a chance to stand. Likewise, if the corporate
image of an organization is not that good and the physical
structure of the organization isn't proving to be advantageous for
the organization, then the organization's Identity will suffer.
But, if the organization's physical structure and its identity are
thriving, then its corporate image will be improved and it will
have a good reputation amongst the general public and its
stakeholders. Thus, these three aspects - physical structure,
organizational identity, and corporate image are all
inter-connected with each other.
