Why are Do Not Resuscitate Orders a legal or ethical issue that is faced in healthcare?
DNR is a legal document that the patient or relatives signed with the presence of a witness. The document means that if the patient gets into certain kind of troubles ,the health care professionals do not suppose to use any extraordinary means to rescue the patient.
For instance, if the patient has sudden severe breathing difficulty we resisted to do the endotracheal intubation. DNR form is an idea that the patient's quality of life is low.
DNR is usually mad in oncology and hematology departments. And the health care workers face ethical dilemma.the patient and relatives think differently about DNR.when the patient and relatives have not been adequately informed about DNR, that will end up with a legal or ethical issue.
Lack of developing ethical virtues, lack of knowledge of ethical theories and relevant clinical guidelines ,failing to act upon ethical judgement. Thease all are the factors of ethical issues faced by the health care professionals.
Incapability of staff to deal such dilemmas. Staff involved in thase decisions should have adequate competence to deal such dilemmas also have the capacity to handle ethical dilemmas.
Communication is an essential factor of this because. If the health care workers communicate effectively with the patient or relative about DNR , we can avoid so many leagal and and ethical issues regarding DNR
