It is important to have a standardized entry into practice for nursing as it is good for enhancing the profession. For meeting the increasing complexity of patient needs, based on the recommendation of the American Nurses Association (ANA) of 1965, baccalaureate degree should be the minimum level of education for entry into practice. This was an attempt by American Nurses Association (ANA) for changing the education of nurses from an apprenticeship to a science-based practice.
Low government funding, the requirement for a baccalaureate degree was stalled by the development and proliferation of and two-year nursing degree programs and community colleges.
Finally, nurses’ inability to realize that they are more than just caregivers has been a continuing stumbling block.
For overcoming these barriers, nurses should be educated and more programs offering baccalaureate degree should be established, nationwide.
