Question 4
Select all that apply Which of the following are chemical property characteristics that could impact pharmacokinetics?
A. formulation
B. half life
C. patient age
D. interactions
E. disease
We get ill. To overcome it , we take medicine or drugs. Now how these drugs are absorbed and distributed , how these drugs got metabolized and how kidney excreted them from our body? The study which involve such above finding is called the pharmacokinetics.
Now here the question asked about the chemical properties that affect the pharmacokinetics.
A. Formulation: Formulation of a drugs means the ingredients it has. A drug has two components the Active part and the other is diluents and binders. These diluents or binder can slow the rate of absorption of an drug. So it can affect the pharmacokinetics.
B. Half life: Half life of a drugs means that after a particular time the drug concentration at the time of taken is reduced to half. It means the excreation of drug from the body. Hence it is also affect the pharmacokinetics.
C. Patient age: Age is also considered for giving a drug. Higher the age , lower the distribution of drug in body and lower the excretion by kidney. Hence it also affect the pharmacokinetics.
D. Interaction: Some drugs cannot be taken with empty stomach or with alcohol because this will create another substance which may create an adverse effect in the body. It can also lowers the absorption rate, distribution rates. Hence it also affect the pharmacokinetics.
E. Disease: various disease can cause adverse effect as well as reduce the efficacy of a drug. Blood sugar , a type of disease often reduces the ansorption of an drug and thus make it difficult for the drug to function effectively. Hence it also affects the pharmacokinetics.
So all of the option are somehow interacts with the principle of pharmacokinetics . But as the chemical components has been asked the right answer will be the formulation, half life and interactions.
Patient age and disease is not the chemical property.
