Explain why the brain interprets top-down processing information the way it does.
Brain is at the highest level in the central nervous system and it involves the the higher functional activities like thinking, perceiving etc. Psychology considers sensation and perception as two different things, Whatever our sensory organs gives information to our brain such as taste, smell, touch, vision etc is sensation but whereas how our brain perceives the information good, bad, sour, sweet, rough, soft etc is perception.
Top down processing involves perception driven by cognition. For eg: If we come across any paragraph in which some words are legible while others are illegible. If we read whole paragraph we can make some meaning out of it, we would be able to understand the crux of the passage. Hence information was given from cognition to vision. Let us take gestalt principle of closure.
