Provide one example of bottom-up information processing and one of top-down information processing different.
The process of understanding available information is called information processing. People understand the available information in two ways. Those are Bottom-up information processing and Top-down information processing.
Provide one example of bottom-up information processing?
Bottom-Up information processing: This process doesn't allow any previous knowledge, beliefs, cultural values, estimations, etc. while processing the information. In this process, people give high priority to the sensory information rather than their previous experiences. They try to analyze each and every sensory information. Based on the sensory information available they will come to conclusions.
Example: Tasting a food item with closed eyes and telling whether that is good or bad. Here the person considered only sensory information and he doesn't use any previous knowledge.
Provide one example of Top-Down Processing?
Top-Down information processing: This process will allow previous knowledge, beliefs, cultural values, estimations, etc. while processing the information. In this process, we will give high priority to our previous experiences rather than sensory information. Based on previous experience about particular sensory stimulus we make predictions and come to conclusions.
Example: People believe that a person who wears costly clothes is a rich person. Here costly clothes are sensory information and Previous knowledge telling that rich persons wear costly clothes. We gave high priority to our previous knowledge and believed that the person is a rich person.
