provide an example of how someone had a single story about you, or how you had a single story about someone else. Discuss how the single story relates to attribution theory. Did the single story suggest a situational attribution or a dispositional attribution? Explain.
Note: This response is in UK English, please paste the response to MS Word and you should be able to spot discrepancies easily. You may elaborate the answer based on personal views or your classwork if necessary. Also, since you have to share a personal story, I have provided an example instead. You may change it to represent your own experience.
(Answer) John Doe goes for an interview with a company. John does get the job because upon researching there, he finds out that the job requires some software skills that he does not possess. However, during the interview, John is extremely polite and considerate. He talks about his personal experiences and makes the interviewers comfortable enough to share their experiences as well. These interviewers remember his one experience that they had with John.
Later on, there is a job opening that would fit John’s skills very well. At this time, the interviewers suggest hiring John. This is because they liked John’s conduct the first time and have based their opinion on a situational attribute. This is when one’s beliefs, feelings and emotions about a person are used to determine the personality of an individual. In other words, a few qualities are assumed to be the essence of John’s personality.
