As older adults live longer, they may have more than one chronic disease. Or, they may have a health problem that can lead to another condition or injury if not properly managed. The older adult requires careful nutritional management to ensure proper care and improve or maintain quality of life. The older adults live longer with more than one chronic diseases are requir a strict diet list and follow them regularly. The old-age people age more than 65 yrs. to 70 yrs are mostly suffers from =
Male = cardiovascular, cerebrovascular, chronic kidney disease, prostate enlargement, bone deformity, diabetes,,weakness fatigue etc.
Female = as menopause occurs they mostly suffers from osteoporosis, goute arthritis, osteomalesia, cervical cancer, cardiovascular, cerebrovascular, problem etc.

The older adults are one of the most vulnerable group of people in community. They are more prone to develop malnutrition. There body mass and metabolic rate is decreased so, the energy requirements is also reduced.
Nutritional needs =
The total amount of energy requirements for older
Male = 1800 to 2200 kcal /day
Female = 1700 to 2000 kcal/day
1.Carbohydrat = the 50% of the total daily energy must comes from carbohydrates source. The main carbohydrates comes from rice, whole grains, fruts, various vegetables, suger, sweet.
If the person has diabetes then the carbohydrate intake must be reduced.
2. Protein = the total protein has to intake 1 gm/day. The protein has to take to improve immunity, to maintain body mass, fight with various micro-organisms etc. If the person suffers from kidney problems, liver diseases , gout,gastric ulcer other metabolic then protein intake must has to reduce.
The protein can be get from white portion of egg, fish has all types of essential amino acids, pulses, wheat , milk and milk products.
3. Fat = the fat intake has to reduce for oldage. The HDL intake has to increase, LDL & VLDL intake has to reduce . The Omega-3 fatty acids must be intake more. This will reduce the chances of MI, hypertension, Deep vain thrombosis, embolism, other cardiovascular problem.
The fat contain diet that should be intake are =
Sunflower old, soyabean oil, liver of fish and meet, egg yolks, milk and milk products etc.
4. Vitamins = the vitamin intake has to be interested in more amount. The Vit- D is required to maintain bone health. Vit- c is required for mainten immunity, vita- B complex is required for mainten metabolism. The vitamin supplements may require if any contraindications are not present.
5. Minerals = the total dietary minerals intake must be maintained. The Calcium has to take 800 mg/day. From small fish, meat, vegetables, milk, calcium can be get. It maintains bone and mascular health.
Total iron intake will be 30 mg/day. Fe can be get from various vagetables, fruits, non veg foods. Zn intake should be intake to maintain epithelial health.
In hypertensive patients the salt intake has to be reduced upto 1500 mg/day.
6. Fibers = the fiber intake has to be increased to reduce constipation, and to maintain proper gastric health. The fiber containing foods are oats, vegetables, green leafy vegetables, cereals, pulses, ets are contain dietary fibets,. If any contraindications are there the constitution with physician recomend.
