The world is more connected than ever
It is very common to see everyone on their phones these days. The reason could be anything whether they are using any application that involves their work or they want to know about the well-being of their loved ones. So, see everyone is quite connected. This connectivity has increased manifolds in the last one decade. In the ancient times, the best means of transportation or message delivery systems also took months. The advancements in technology has reduced this time significantly.
Impact of connectivity on today's culture
Connectivity has changed our cultural identity. Since the connectivity has improved, we have exchanged our cultures. So, what was prevailent in the west in the last decade is now followed by the people in the east and vice-versa. The flow of culture no longer finds space, time and distance as constraints. In fact these concepts have dissolved since the connectivity has improved. It is bringing people closer than before and with people comes their ideas, their knowledge and most importantly their culture. These are quite easily and quickly accessible. Connectivity in itself is a cultural artifact.
Is being connected always good for society
Yes, being connected to people always helps in some way or the other. One can share his feelings, and emotions with one another. Being connected to people creates a sense of belongingness which further helps in reducing our loneliness and stress. People can share their greviences and seek one another's help in the times of need. That is what the concept of an ideal society is in general. To look after each other and live in a communal harmony.
The concept of connectivity has varied adversely since the advent of technology. It is no longer confined to two neighboring houses or the people in a society. So when one talks about connectivity, he has to be specific whether it is about social connectivity that we have with our neighbors or the social media connectivity that we have with our relatives and friends on various social media platforms like facebook, Instagram, etc..
What harm does connectivity has on the society?
Being connected in a society has more advantages in general as compared to the connectivity on social media. In 21st century's fast paced life, all that one needs is a companion who can understand him, who he can rely upon. One can see the impact of social media connectivity on the young generation. Many of the young guys go to cafes but more than enjoying their tasty food they can be seen clicking pictures and posting status about it. They are least interested in the person who has accompanied them to the cafe. All they want is to flaunt their riches. The people in connection on the other hand may feel low or jealous about the status and may question their ownself. This is how connectivity can harm the society. People are not satisfied with what do or what they have, rather they are jealous of what the people they are connected to do and owns.
This vicious cycle of fakeism is only getting worse as we are moving our way futrther into the 21st century. Loneliness is the disease that people will be suffering from in the time to come. These superficial connections, our nuclear families residing distance apart, and relying on social technologies rather than face to face interaction will make people feel more isolated than ever. We are a social animal and always want to feel that we belong among others.
Hope this helps :)
