Today, more than ever, parents are encouraged to talk to their teens about drugs. During this talk with your child, you want to present several facts. What facts about smoking, alcohol use, and marijuana use do you present to your child? Remembering that "...most adolescents think they are exceptions," and learning of generational forgetting, what approach do you use to discourage your child from using these substances?
One of the most important information that I would provide to my children regarding the drug use is about the peer pressure. This is because most of the time, friends force the members in their group to try something adventurous. Only people who do not have the will power to reject the demands of the friends into negative ways would emerge successful. Secondly, I would show information regarding the number of people struggle due to substance abuse in terms of their physical, social and psychological wellbeing. This is because those who use drugs would lose their health and become dysfunctional. It would affect all their opportunities to work, earn and enjoy life. They wouldn’t be able to hold on to relationships because they wouldn’t be able to think or remember thinks. Finally, I would also present information regarding the number of people engage in crimes after using drug which would mar their entire life opportunities. This would mean that those who use drugs wouldn’t be able to control their behaviours and in the pursuit of pleasure, they would engage in acts that are not moral and legal.
