Write a one page summary of the first half of "5 dysfunctions of a team" by Patrick Lencioni.
the five dysfunctions of a team
This is a book that would be describing the many downfalls of a team that it would be facing, as the team would be growing together. This is a book that describes the causes that lead to team failure as well as organisational politics.
The issues presented are referred to as being important for team sports. It is divided into two halves. The first half is in the form of a fable and the second half represents a model. The fable is further represented into five parts, which describe the luck, underachievement, lighting of fire, heavy lifting as well as traction.
It explains the interaction between the newly appointed CEO Kathryn, The former chief executive officer, Jeff Shanley, the COO, CFO, head of sales as well as the head of customer support. The book introduces steps by which misunderstandings would reduce, such that absence of trust could be addressed. Absence of trust is one of the biggest waste of time as well as energy. Teams could overcome this by defensive behaviors.
Also, it has been mentioned about the conflicts and fear of conflicts. Teams that do not have trust would not be able to be avoid conflict and there would be presence of artificial harmony. Lack of commitment is another issue that concerns the teams. Teams that are productive would be making decisions that are transparent and would be confident in supporting the different members of the team.
If the teams would not be committing, there would be absence of accountability. In a team that would be functioning well, there would be proper accountability, which acts as the key towards success. Also, if the individuals would not be accountable to the work done by them, they would not be interested in the results.
