Weiss ( 1969, 1974) is known for his work in organismic biology within which he emphasised on the approaching systems nature of development and behaviour. According to him, physical health and well being is a function of close interpersonal affiliations with kin and non-kin persons. Close relationships provide greater attachmen and also promote greater instrumental assistance and social integration in individuals.
individuals require six key social provisions or needs which include both assistance-related (such as guidance) and nonassistance-related needs (social integration, reassurance of worth, nurturance, and attachment. These components are fulfilled by different individuals in order to maintain well-being and to avoid loneliness.
primary group relationships which are characterised by closeness, warmth and commitment, allow an individual to develop healthy attachments and avoid emotional and social isolation. Considered together, these needs can be taken to provide an assessment of the total perceived support quality which is available to an individual.
