what are some pros and cons to an ANOVA statistical analysis?

Solutions

Expert Solution

ANOVA Analysis of variance is a statistical tool used for separating the variance arised from one group of causes (chance causes ) to the variance araised from other group of causes(assignable causes)

Generally there are two types of causes behind the variation in any experiment one is chance causes of variation and the other one is assignable causes of variation. The amount of variation due to chance causes is possible to measure but the causes behind such variation are beyond the control of human hand ,such variation is araised due to random causes, nature only knew the causes behind such a variation

The amount of variation due to assignable causes is possible to measure and causes behind such variation are under the control of human hand thats why these causes are called preventable causes

Advantages of ANOVA

Analysis of variance as a statistical tool useful for calculating the amount of variance araised due to each of these causes separately and also useful for comparing the chance causes of variation (Error variation) with assignable causes of variation

It is useful for elevating the significance of each of the assignable causes of variation on the basis of comparing with chance cause of variation, suppose in any experiment error variation is dominating the assignable cause of variation then simply we have to conclude that assignable causes of variation is not significant, but if chance cause of variation is dominated by the assignable causes of variation then we have to conclude that the variation due to assignable causes is significant in such a case researcher trying to elivate which assignable cause is more significant

All these duties done by ANOVA, thats why it is more efficient method for comparison even though there are other methods available like t test, Ftest, kai square test .

Major advantage with this method compared to other methods is it is useful for comparing several means

Disadvantages of ANOVA

The major disadvantage is its mathematical model , it is difficult to construct and difficult to understand because it consists all the independendent and dependent variables and interaction between several independent variables and also their effect on dependent variable

Another disadvantage is its analysis, after constructing its mathematical , statistical models the statistical analysis is quite difficult it is not easy to understand the significance of each of the factors invoved in an experiment and their inter relationships where as in other methods the conclusion is only in one sentence
