discuss the political factor that led to the scramble for and partition of the African continent among European powers?
Rather than economic and social, only the political factor.
Scramble of Africa was the invasion, division, and colonization of Africa by the Europeans. This episode is also known as Conquest of Africa or the Partition of Africa. Between 1881 to 1914 up to 90% of Africa was under European control. There were many political, social, and economical reasons behind this conquest.
Political Reason.
1. That was the era of sheer Imperialism. Colonies used to be considered assets and often used for exchange in the international community.
2. Colonies used to be the muscle power of state supremacy.
3. Nationalism was one of the potential political factors that led to Europian counties establishing their rule over Africa because nationalist philosophy allows possessing the power above others.
4. France was keen to establish his lost glory after the humiliating defeat by Germany by colonizing Africa.
5. To defeat Germany France wanted manpower to establish an army hence wanted new colonies and economical situation fo Africa provided that opportunity.
6. Itlay along with Germany acquired colonies to establish great political power to involve in international politics.
7. To balance the power of Germany and Italy, France and Britain also acquired the colonies.
8. Belgium also wanted to join this race or power after the Berlin conference.
9. The great ambition of squaring the greater empire, political influencers like Otto Von Bismark, Rhode, Leopold, etc. also play a significant role in Aferica's colonisation.
