the reasons for exploration and colonization of African continent.

What reasons would Western Europeans give for exploration and colonization?

Solutions

Expert Solution

European colonialism championed several interests that benefitted them economically, socially, and politically. Colonization was the strategy of acquiring partial or full political monitoring of territories or societies, which later founded colonies. Reasons for exploration had significant merits economically to Western Europeans, first they wanted a shipping route to India, Africa, and China which acted as their main sources of raw materials (Gutiérrez & Encarnación, 2018). The already advanced passage route to Asia passed via the Middle East was dominated by thieves and posed danger to middlemen involved in the trade.

The high demand for fine silk products from China and Japan also necessitated the need for exploration. Essentially they championed exploration with the sole aim of spreading religion by the missionaries, supremacy over political dominance, and seek for gold which was a very precious mineral. Colonization was mainly experienced in Africa and in Asian countries; it involved taking full political control of territories and exploiting economic resources hence boosting industrialization in Western European nations.
