Discuss the type of noise that is the most difficult to remove from an analog and a digital signal? Give reasons for your answer. How does error detection and correction work with wireless signals? Is data compressed when being transmitted? Describe the process.

Expert Solution

The most difficult noise that is difficult to remove from an analog and a digital signal is "Flicker noise".

Flicker noise or 1/f noise is a form of electronic noise that dominates at low frequencies or low frequency offsets from oscillators. Flicker noise or 1/f noise occurs in almost all electronic devices, and it has a variety of different causes, although these are usually related to the flow of direct current. This noise is a 1/f power spectral density that occurs in almost all electronic devices, which increases the overall noise level. It also shows up with variety of other effects, such impurities in conductive channels of electronic components.

Basically we have three types of errors these are - Single bit ,Multiple bit nad burst error .And hence if there is error we have ways to first detect and correct it .There are many ways of error detection like single parity check, two dimensional parity check, check sum , and Cyclic redundancy Check.and error correction is done by two ways forward error correction and backward error correction. In wireless signals Error detection and correction work by modulating the carrier signals of a waveform through radio transmission.

Data is not compressed when transmitted, rather data is broken into fragments known as packets and transmitted by method of packet switched networking and applying a protocol called Transmission control protocol (TCP).

Transport control protocol which defines how application can create channels of communication accross a network. It also manage how a message is assemble into smaller packets before they are transmitted over the internet and reassembled in the right order at the destination oddress.

An analog signal, bandlimited to 20 Hz is corrupted by high-frequency noise. The spectrum of the noise is from 25 Hz to 35 Hz. The noisy analog signal is sampled at 60 Hz. A digital lowpass filter is to be designed so as to remove the noise from the signal. Find the desired frequency response.
