Designing complex applications is a challenging undertaking. Creating applications that have both the depth to support complicated tasks and the feeling to make it clear how to get that work done is a tremendous challenge. With the flow of engaging and cool new design options we have seen millions of apps and websites receive a makeover. This has also seen a lot of poor design choices that contains consumers to connect with brands. From basic aesthetics to weak content, poor navigation, and unknown errors, there are many aspects or directions of design that can be improved.

Below, you’ll find some of the common web application design mistakes and how to keep them from hurting your customer overall engagement.

1. Forget to use responsive design

Above 40 percent of searches are done on mobiles, having a website that can display properly on those devices is of importance for any businesses. Most of the websites these days have been built with responsive web design. Google introduced a search update that corrects the non-responsive sites in mobile searches, this will be a major problem if we don’t focus.

2. Disordered content layout

Content on the application is what directs the customer to it. The design of the content makes it a success or a failure. Users don’t have time to read through the whole page, they just scan the required points like headings, subheadings, bullets, keywords, etc. we should bright out the important content and links for the user to click while scanning through the page.

  • Don’t put unnecessary content which clutters or jumbles the page.
  • Create sufficient white space between your text and images by using margins.

Update and be consistent. The reason of updating is to add new content or new features and correct past mistakes.

3. Do not forget about the actual design elements

Have compatible design elements all through the application. Consider the design elements of the platform such as Android or iOS and create the application accordingly. Make sure the photos, videos, and banners are supporting the content and evaluate the layout. Icons and images support the text and help the user to scan through the content easily, use of low-resolution icons and images will kill the overall attractiveness of the application. Make sure the usage of icons and images are supporting the content and making the overall experience great.

4. Take count of the Loading-Time

While it’s good to have effective JavaScript animations, to capture the attention of customers but it isn’t good if it affects the performance. Less is more is the act in web design. A page with half a dozen of images jumbled with different icons and lack of content hierarchy leads to bad design. The aim of good design is to provide guidance, focus, and a content hierarchy.

5. Placing Ads in the wrong place

Advertising is the key for any brand to generate revenue, but if it’s cluttering the App and making users life uncomfortable, you should reconsider your strategy of advertisements placements.

  • Don’t consider full-screen size ads where the close button is unseen.
  • Never cover the content with the ad placement, it’ll kill or damages the purpose of the app.

Content mistakes or source of data mistakes:

1. Your content isn’t focused on visitors.

Inexperienced content promoters focus on creating content that’s focused on their business and how great they are. This content disregard visitors’ desires, goals, fears, frustrations, and problems. This decreases reliability and it makes it harder to convert visitors into customers.

2. Your content isn’t scannable.

Your website visitors have just sufficient time to read 28 percent of the text on an average web page during an average visit. What does scannable content look like?

  • Descriptive sub-headings
  • Short paragraphs (two or three sentences)
  • Bold, italicized, and highlighted formatting
  • Bullet points and numbered lists

This kind of content is simple to scan and far more likely to be read by your visitors.

3. Poor use of whitespace

When it’s used well, whitespace increases comprehension, improves readability, increases attention, and increases clarity. When there isn’t enough whitespace, content is massive for visitors to read.

4. Poor grammar

We all encounter with grammar mistakes from time to time. That’s clear and something most website visitors are willing to forgive. Grammar generates a problem when it becomes a habit. It destroys your website’s credibility, it makes a pretty horrible first impression, and it costs you money.
