In: Operations Management
As a maintenance manager, your task is to apply
project management tools and techniques
towards planning of your maintenance project. Think of your own
project (for example,
refurbishing of a boiler plant) and report on how you would go
about planning such a project.
Indicate all the equipment involved in your project, maintenance
activities, allocation of human
resources and all costs involved. Show the following in the process
of planning your project:
1. Project definition
2. Work breakdown structure
3. Cost Plan
4. Network diagram
5. resource chart
Let's consider the maintenance project of the automotive assembly lines in our case and lets see how below points will imply to it
1. Project definition
Maintenance of assembly lines
2. Work breakdown structure
Here is a project manager who will identify some jobs and duties at
the microlevel and than these roles will be assigned to team
members based upon their skills and duties.
The use of tools like the Gantt chart will also be helpful in
decision making and meeting timelines. Being a project manager you
can review the progress of each task and evaluate whether the
project is expected to complete on time.
3. Cost Plan
Now, this is the most important part as maintenance work requires
replacement of torn or worn up parts like in our case cleaning of
assembly line fixtures, formatting of line stations. So no matter
the parts are considered to be replaced but there cost should be
considered in the plan.
4. Network diagram
Now here if a project network graph is a visual portrayal of the
work process of a task. A system graph is a diagram that is
populated with boxes noticing errands and obligations, and
afterward bolts that map the calendar and the succession that the
work must be finished. In this way, a system chart is an approach
to outwardly follow the advancement of each period of the task to
its fulfillment.
