Choose a company and analyze its CSR report. In doing so, think about what seem to be its reasons for being socially responsible. Is it pragmatic, ethical, strategic, or some combination? Can you identify its key stakeholders?
The chosen company for CSR analysis is Royal Bank of Canada, which is one of Canada’s largest bank. Its CSR activities are mainly in the areas of water and environment conservation, education, sports, mental health of children and art and culture. It also donates to charitable organizations. The bank adheres to various global charters and programs such as, the United Nations Environment Programme Statement by Financial Institutions, the Copenhagen Communiqué on Climate Change, ICC Business Charter for Sustainable Development, etc.
I believe the reasons driving its CSR activities are a combination of ethical and strategic reasons. Its donations for social and environmental causes indicate their ethical reasons. The strategic intent can be gauged by the fact that they strongly prefer funding charitable organizations in regions where the bank conducts businesses.
Its key stakeholders are employees, customers, community service providers, social organizations, etc.
