Answer: These are the major issues caused by the slavery
that led to present day wealth inequlities:
- Reach to the Resources: Slaves didn't have any
reach to resources. They were treated as an animal and they used to
work for their owners. They could not own lands, they couldn't
establish factories. They were restricted and their freedom was
curtailed. These conditions had major implication on the race to
resources. A significant gap was produced between blacks and whites
due to slavery, which will take years to diminish.
- Lack of opportunity: Due to slavery, blacks
had very less opportunity under the sun. All they could be in their
life was a farm worker or a servant who was paid very
insignificantly. They were discriminated and tortured when they
used to start some business on their own. This kept them poor for
the most of the time in the history.
- Discriminnation: Though slavery ended,
prejudices and discriminations never did. They continued to exist
in the society that kept blacks away from mainstream for very long
time, which easily translated into wealth inequality.
