Why do white privilege continue to reproduce itself as most inequalities?
What do social mobility have to do with white priviledge.
How does gender and race limit upward social mobility?
Does social mobility depends on social structures?
The white privilege ensures that white individuals are attributed an unequal yet superior status in relation to other categories of racial identity. This relationship is perpetuated and reinforced by several social forces that result in differential relations in roles, functions, decisions, rights, and opportunities. More particularly, white privilege can be observed in aspects such as residential segregation or healthcare, employment and educational discrimination. These institutions are currently structured in ways that ensure the reproduction of white privilege over generations.
White privilege also creates differences in social mobility levels. A study by Reeves and Sawhill (2014) indicates that 16 percent of white children born the poorest families of the U.S rise to become a part of the top one-fifth by the time they are 40 years old, whereas the odds for the black child is just 3 percent. It is clear that an individual’s “whiteness” is linked to greater upward social mobility.
